 What We Do

“Imagination…Stimulating…Richly dramatic…Simplicity and Clarity are some of the strengths of the company”

Education

Spiralarts can offer educational programs and workshops for a wide range of situations and across a number of disciplines. Please see our Education page for more information.

SpiralDance Classes (What Is SpiralDance?)

The company specialises in dance movement and has created a programme of creative dance: "SpiralDance", which explores spiral forms inspired by nature and influenced by both Eastern and Western movement disciplines.

  • Uses clear and accessible technique and form.
  • Draws inspiration from nature.
  • Creates more energy and vitality without exhaustion.
  • Highlights and supports individual creativity.
  • Helps integration with other artists.
  • Allows movement to flow easily and organically through the body.
  • Instills a sense of joy and wellbeing.
  • Honours dance as a unique and expressive art form.

Shiatsu Courses

Please see the Ealing School of Shiatsu website for further details.

Integrated Arts

Developmental and pioneering work exploring the value and effect of dance and body awareness on and integrated with other art forms, for example music, painting, poetry and singing.

The process a dancer experiences by working closely with another artist is also explored, to gain insight into allied disciplines.

This work aims to create a new dimension in performance for both dance and integrated arts.

Please contact us if you are interested in setting up a workshop in this area.

Workshops (see also our Education section)

The company organize workshops for people to discover their own dance skills and creativity and form these around a particular theme, for example, The Four Elements. All workshop sessions begin with a simple body/voice warm up, work through the creative task in hand and finish with a close down using specific breathing patterns. There is time for discussion and questions. A series of workshops can lead to a performance showing of the work done.

Platform Evenings

These are held to give space and encouragement to artists, including members of the company, to create, experiment and show original work in a supportive environment where the audience can be part of the creative experience and watch the growth of an artist.

Improvisation Sessions

These sessions are for anyone who enjoys spontaneous creativity. They enhance the freedom of the individual and the spontaneous unification of a group of people. They allow the integration of different art forms, each gaining inspiration from the other. These sessions are themed and guided by SpiralArts teachers and always include live music.

The following poem was created from an improvisation evening:

The veil of rapture flows from hand to hand.
A sheet of flame
where further worlds are felt.
the edge dissolves as fast as wax can melt -
forgiveness kindles
Burns us to move free

CrackCrack of power lifts the raptureshout.
Let songwind billow wide your sails
full filled!

Red cries now speed the crossing home to blue.
Warm womb waters now break against the swell.

We,
Brief breath of seacloud, rise and fly.
Then fall as rain
Released
As rapture ends.

Anna Johnson, 2004.
